About Texas Children's

Texas Children's Hospital is the largest children's hospital in the country and has been named the number one pediatric hospital in Texas for seventeen consecutive years. All ten of its ranked specialties place in the national top ten, and its heart center is ranked first in the nation.

Why families need somewhere to stay

Families come to Texas Children's from across Texas and well beyond for care that exists in very few places: complex heart surgery, fetal intervention, and long stays in the neonatal unit. When the patient is a child, a parent does not visit. A parent stays.

Admissions here can be long, particularly in cardiology and the NICU. If your child's stay runs past two weeks, call us rather than assuming the answer is no.

A place for parents to sleep while a child is admitted

Hospitals will usually let one parent stay at the bedside. That leaves everyone else, and it leaves that parent with nowhere to shower, do laundry, or sit down properly.

Room for the rest of the family

Siblings and grandparents need somewhere too, and they should not have to be at the hospital all day to be near you.

Somewhere to take a real break

Fifteen minutes in a quiet room away from monitors is worth more than most people expect. We are close enough that you can come back quickly.

Laundry, at any hour

Long admissions mean laundry, and the machines here are free and open around the clock.

A kitchen instead of the cafeteria

Weeks of hospital food wears anyone down. Cook what your family actually eats.

The suggested donation is $50 a night, and no one is turned away for inability to pay. We would rather you spent your money on getting home again.

Questions families ask

Where do parents stay when a child is admitted to Texas Children's?

Some families are placed with the Ronald McDonald House, which runs seventy rooms for Texas Children's families and is well worth asking about. When it is full, or when your child's condition does not qualify, we have rooms.

Can siblings and grandparents stay too?

Yes. Our rooms suit a couple or a parent with a child, and we can sometimes place a larger family across two rooms. Tell us who is traveling when you call.

What does it cost to stay?

The suggested donation is $50 a night. No one is turned away for inability to pay. Tell the innkeepers when you call and the donation is simply set aside.

Who may stay at Houston Mennonite Guest Home?

Patients receiving treatment in Houston and the immediate family traveling with them. We host short-term stays only.

How do I request a room?

Call us or send a request through the website. An innkeeper answers every request the same day, and will tell you straight away whether a room is open for your dates.
