Why families need somewhere to stay

Patients are referred to Houston Methodist for transplant, for complex cardiac and neurological surgery, and for second opinions on cases their own hospital cannot take. Transplant in particular means an extended workup before surgery and a long recovery after, with the family expected to stay within reach throughout.

Transplant timelines rarely fit inside two weeks, and stays with us are limited to two weeks so a room stays open for the next family. We can help bridge part of a longer stay.

Staying close during a transplant

Transplant care asks a family to be nearby for months, not days, and to be able to reach the hospital quickly when the call comes.

Waiting for a transplant

Patients on a list have to stay within reach of the hospital. We are a short drive from the medical center and someone is here at any hour.

Recovery and monitoring

The first days after surgery mean frequent clinic visits. A room nearby for up to two weeks is far easier than repeated trips home.

A caregiver's base

One person usually carries most of this. They need a bed, a kitchen, laundry, and a door that closes.

Quiet, deliberately

Doors are locked at ten and the house stays quiet after that. Guests here are tired, and we protect that.

We are a short drive from the Texas Medical Center. Call before you travel and we will give you the route and tell you where to park.

Who may stay at Houston Mennonite Guest Home?

Adult patients receiving treatment in Houston and the adults traveling with them. We do not host children. We host short-term stays only.

How do I request a room?
