Why families need somewhere to stay

Almost no one plans a trip to a trauma center. A family is called in the middle of the night, drives in from out of town, and arrives with no booking, no luggage, and no idea whether they will be here for three days or three months. Nobody packs for that, and there is very little set up to help with it.

If you are calling from the road after an accident, say so. We will do what we can, and we would rather sort out the details once you have somewhere to sleep.

When you arrive with no notice

Trauma families arrive in the worst circumstances and with the least preparation. There is no time to research where to stay.

Call from the car

You do not need dates, a plan, or an idea of how long. Tell us what has happened and we will tell you whether there is a bed.

A long, uncertain wait

Intensive care runs day by day with little warning of what comes next. Staying nearby beats booking a hotel one night at a time.

Somewhere to fall apart quietly

A waiting room is no place to grieve or to make hard decisions. You will have a room with a door.

Practical things nobody packed for

Laundry, a kitchen, and a bed, for people who left home in a hurry with nothing.

Suggested donation $50 a night, and if that is not possible right now it genuinely does not matter. Say so and stay anyway.

Questions families ask

We are driving in tonight after an accident. Can we get a room?

Call us. If there is a room open it is yours, and we will handle the paperwork later. Tell the innkeeper you are coming from the hospital and roughly when you expect to arrive.

How long can we stay while someone is in intensive care?

Our usual limit is two weeks. Intensive care rarely respects a schedule, so if you need longer, talk to us instead of assuming you have to leave.

What does it cost to stay?

The suggested donation is $50 a night. No one is turned away for inability to pay. Tell the innkeepers when you call and the donation is simply set aside.

How do I request a room?

Call us or send a request through the website. An innkeeper answers every request the same day, and will tell you straight away whether a room is open for your dates.
