About Ben Taub
Ben Taub Hospital is Harris County's public hospital, a 402-bed teaching hospital run by Harris Health and staffed by physicians from Baylor College of Medicine. It has been a Level I trauma center since 1995, one of only two in the county, and sees more than 80,000 emergency patients a year. It treats everyone who comes through the door, whether or not they can pay.
Why families need somewhere to stay
Patients are referred to Ben Taub from across the county and beyond for surgery, specialist treatment and follow-up care their local clinic cannot provide. When the date is set, a family member usually comes along and stays through the recovery. A hotel in the medical center is out of reach for many of them, and driving home and back each day is hard on a patient who has just had a procedure.
Plan your stay when you plan the procedure
The house is usually close to full, so rooms go to the families who ask ahead. Once the hospital gives you a date, let us know, and a bed near the hospital is one less thing to worry about.
A bath of your own
Every room has its own bath, so nobody is sharing one with strangers while recovering.
Ask as early as you can
Send us your dates as soon as the surgery or treatment is scheduled. Same-day requests will most likely find the house full.
Eat without spending
A full guest kitchen and breakfast every morning. Weeks of cafeteria meals add up; cooking here does not.
A door that closes
Somewhere to sleep properly, wash clothes, and rest after a procedure, a few minutes from the hospital.
